STOP NOISE POLLUTION

Hi everyone 😊

In this journal entry, I would like to share my experience on how to deal with "Noise Pollution" in urban areas. Hope you guys enjoy reading it 💗

Have you ever heard about "Noise Pollution"?

Noise pollution is an invisible danger. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) noise pollution is a state of excessive noise that" seriously harms human health and interferes with people's daily activities at school, at work, at home and during leisure time. Millions people are impacted by noise pollution worldwide, so it is fair to say that environmental noise is a growing global problem.

First of all, I never expect living in crowded cities will expose me to "noise pollution" until I moved to Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately, my new house is located next to busy highways and near to 4 buildings that are under construction. Everyday, I'm dealing with construction sounds like drilling and sounds from the heavy machines. Having noise around distort my peaceful sleep as it cause stress. It disturbed my sleep pattern. Apart from that, a large number of cars and other road vehicles that have internal combustion engines are making road traffic noise. Cities become noisier with car honking and traffic jammed that lead to noise pollution.

I realized in order to reduce noise pollution in my residential area, I need to practice some preventive measures. The first one is I usually turn off all the electrical appliances when not in use. The televisions, fans and air-conditioning are all make noise and sometimes these sounds cause stress on my ears. In addition, by turning those electronics I can reduce my parents burden by saving their money on electricity. It can be proven that my house electrical bills is decreased from the previous month.

After that, I take a look on my house compound. There was no plant over there. One thing that popped out in my mind was planting trees. Trees and bushes are used as sound barriers to reduce the noise disturbance. Based on my studies, plant trees can reduce noise by 5 to 10 decibels around them. The trees part such as branches, stem and leaves absorb more high-frequency noise than low frequency, this makes them ideal for use as sound barriersThus, Greenspace has the ability to mitigate noise in urban areas.

Another tip that I practiced is by not pressing the car horn for fun in school or residential area. Sometimes, reckless driver hit the car honk when they are frustrated in traffic jams. However, this is not actually what car honk meant to use for. A horn  should only be used when warning someone who is in danger. Places such as residential areas, hospitals and school are require a quite environment and in my opinion, it should be respected.

In conclusion, these beneficial method helps me to minimize the noise levels. Making a habit unplugging all the appliances when they are not in active use is the effective way to save energy. Planting numerous vegetative trees around my house compound could reduce the noise level within urban settings. In addition, those trees have various aesthetic advantages and can improve air quality. Next, I also practice to be a good driver by obeying traffic road laws. From this, it could protect the pedestrians from any harm. Noise can affect our physical health and overall well being including our concentration with common tasks and mental health. Although noise pollution is rarely to point out, human beings must aware about it.
